On June 6, 1944 Allied troops landed and assaulted the beaches of Normandy.
The assault on Normandy was called D-Day. Before the assault, U.S. paratroopers landed behind German lines in France to choke the German's on D-Day. About 33,000 paratroopers landed at midnight and moved to Normandy to help the landing parties.
